Itineraries
- Day 1: Ho Chi Minh - Mekong Delta - Ho Chi Minh
-
8:00am: Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and bring you by car to your boat at Ho Chi Minh City pier.
8:15am: The boat departs and you slip away from downtown Saigon via narrow canals, and enter the verdant green tributaries of the Mekong Delta. A light breakfast is served on board.
8:45am: Enjoy a brief stop at the ornate, overwater Tuong Van Pagoda, while your guide explains the importance Buddhism to many people of the Delta.
9:30am: Visit a bustling, colorful riverside market full of local curiosities, tropical fruits and all manner of fish and shellfish. Great photo opportunities!
10:30am: Reach the idyllic watery expanses of the Delta itself, known as the Delta of Nine Dragons for the 9 tributaries that splinter from the main Mekong River.
10:45am: Turn off the delta into small, winding canals of the Thu Thua area, shaded by a canopy of foliage as you drift along lazily.
Depending on the route, you will visit a traditional riverside house with huge Burmese pythons as pets, a quaint Mekong village and surrounding rice paddies, and then a traditional farmhouse where you’ll sample coconuts and Mekong whisky.
Or you will visit a local merchant and try a range of Mekong produce, and whisky and wine. You’ll walk along the banks of the river to a traditional rural Vietnamese house where 3 generations live, before exploring a charming village where you can try fresh coconuts from the tree. This variation provides fascinating insight into life in the Mekong Delta region.
Note: Our tours are flexible. Your guide may combine parts from both routes.
12:30pm: Enjoy a traditional Mekong Delta lunch at a local pagoda prepared by our private chef. After lunch, you will visit an orphanage run by Buddhist monks.
01:30pm: Visit a colorful Cao Dai Temple.
02:30pm: Return to the speedboat and depart for Ho Chi Minh City.
04:00pm: Arrive back in Saigon. Staff will return you to your hotel by car.

I know the bus tours are a lot cheaper but this experience is well worth the money. From the start our fabulous guide Tam and her crew looked after us with endless drinks and breakfast plus prepared fruits throughout the day as we flew down the river in smooth comfort. Cooled by the breeze of the river we stopped at various spots, tourist-free, with Tams commentary making the markets and farms even more interesting. Noone hassling you to buy things. Lunch was great at the orphanage and home by 3:30 meant time to relax and still hit the nightlife.

My husband and I went on a day trip to the Mekong Delta. The entire trip was brilliant with all the team being extremely friendly and helpful throughout. During the 1.5 hour boat trip to the Mekong Delta, our amazing tour guide gave us heaps of interesting facts, while we were also continually given plenty of soft drink options, plus a breakfast banh mi or croissant. At each of the stops we made once we reached the Mekong Delta, our tour guide continued to be a brilliant fountain of knowledge and made the entire experience extremely enjoyable. The highlight for me was our lunch at the last stop. We were taken to a local family’s home and given several truly delicious dishes, including a whole cooked fish, prawn and pork rice paper rolls, sweet and sour soup and both braised pork and chicken in ceramic pots. They even provided beers for only $1 per can and gave us a tasting of the delicious Mekong whisky. It is most definitely worth making this trip!

We took the Full Day Mekong Delta Trip by Speedboat. Our group consisted of 12 tourists, and a crew of four. Everyone was friendly, and our guide was very informative and fun. Our speedboat was very roomy and comfortable, and nicely shaded from the sun. It took about 1.5 hours to get to the Mekong Delta area, and was a very interesting glimpse of life on and around the river. Throughout this journey, we were offered a variety of water, tea, and soda, as well as pastries and fresh fruit. We will use them again on our next visit; they do it right!
